What is flowering tea?
Nothing can be more elegant and romantic than the blooming of a flowering tea rosette in a glass teapot, with the delicate aroma infusing the air. I’ve been making flowering teas for a while, and they make great gift ideas!
Flowering tea (also known as blooming tea) is a handcrafted bundle of dried young tea leaves and flowers, sewn tightly together with a cotton thread. When you buy it you’ll find it crafted into distinct shapes like a ball, acorn, mushroom or dome.
Take a look at the picture if you don’t believe me…when it brews it looks so beautiful. It reminds me of the centerpieces at my wedding! The flowers commonly used are chrysanthemum, jasmine, globe amaranth, hibiscus, lily and osmanthus.
This generously sized glass teapot is composed of Borosilicate glass which tends to be stronger and more heat resistant than conventional glassware, yet appears more delicate with an air of sophistication. How to enjoy blooming tea:
1. In teapot:
Rinse the teapot with hot water.
Place one bloom in the teapot (about 14 fl oz or little bigger), add boiled water and pour over tea. Behold the magic of the unfolding tea leaves. Allow to steep 2-3 minutes, then serve the tea into small cups and share with friends. After enjoying the first pot, one flowering tea may be re-steeped 2-3 more times.
2. In glass cup
Rinse the cup with hot water.
Place one bloom in the glass cup (about 4'' in height, 2.5'' in diameter), add boiled water and pour over tea. Behold the magic of the unfolding tea leaves. Allow to steep 2-3 minutes, drink the tea directly.
Add more water to re-steep, one flowering tea may be re-steeped 3-4 more times
