 First impressions:
Build quality is similar to the 9100. It has a really nice looking 'stainless steel' chassis rather than the painted carbon fibre of the 9100. 120degree swash which pivots on the shaft rather than out the front. It's just gotta work better than the original 9100/9104 swash. Canopy is very close to the left hand servo linkage and may interfere with it. Overall it looks nearly identical physically to the 9100 so many of the 9100 spare parts should work with it too. That alone should save us some money there.

 I think forward speed is much like the basic unmodified 9100 as you'd expect.

A few interesting things I've found:
You MUST turn the controller on first, and you only have 4 seconds from then to turn the 9116 on for them to lock onto each other - it's a digital controller.  I wonder how many you can fly in the same area? [found out later you can run up to ten at the same time]
When the battery is getting low, the motor will shut off after you land rather than running out of juice in the air - a nice touch I thought.
The controller display is backlit and very clear. Among all the doodads on the screen is the battery voltage for the controller. Handy.
The controller only uses 6 x AA batteries and can run on alkaline or nicads. (is very nice that it using 6 AA batteries... save 2 batteries from the FM TX that 9100 use)
