Product Description
The OptiX OSN 3500 is a new-generation 10G/2.5G transport platform that transmits multiple services at the convergence and core layers. The equipment supports packet switching and transmission, inherits all features of the MSTP technology, and integrates the SDH/PDH, Ethernet, WDM, ATM, ESCON/FC/FICON, DVB-ASI (Digital Video Broadcast-Asynchronous Serial Interface), and RPR technologies. Therefore, the equipment is compatible with conventional SDH and MSTP networks.
The equipment can be smoothly upgraded to a version that applies to intellectual optical transport networks. It is mainly used at the convergence layer and core layer of large-scale private networks, and uses the same types of boards as the OptiX OSN 9560/7 500/2500/1500 used at the convergence and core layers. In addition, the OptiX OSN 3500 supports ASON features, such as end-to-end automatic service configuration, SLA services, traffic engineering, timeslot fragment optimization, and mesh clock tracing.
The OptiX OSN 3500 supports the high precision clock (IEEE 1588v2) technology. This technology is especially applicable to industries such as electricity and finance that require accurate time synchronization.
Product Features
- Highly Cost-Effective Platform
The OptiX OSN 9560, OptiX OSN 7500, OptiX OSN 3500, OptiX OSN 2500, and OptiX OSN 1500 can constitute a uniform platform because they use the same types of boards and software programs. This compatibility greatly reduces maintenance costs and outlays associated with stocking spare parts and boards.
- Flexible Equipment Configuration
The equipment supports:
STM-16 and STM-64 signals.
In-service upgrades from a 2.5 Gbit/s system to a 10 Gbit/s system.
Great Scheduling CapabilitiesThe equipment provides the following scheduling capabilities:
A higher order cross-connect capacity of 200 Gbit/s and a lower order cross-connect capacity of 20 Gbit/s or 40 Gbit/s
A packet switching capacity of 80 Gbit/s
- Multi-Service Transmission
The equipment transmits the following services:
STM-1 (O/E)
STM-4/STM-16/STM-64 standard or concatenated services
E1/T1/E3/T3/E4 services
FE and GE services
ATM services
IMA services
SAN services and video services
GMPLS-based fast end-to-end services
- High Integration
Subrack dimensions: 730 mm (H) x 496 mm (W) x 295 mm (D)
On a single subrack, there are 15 service board slots and 16 interface board slots.

A variety of SDH network topologies, such as chain, ring, intersection rings, and tangent rings
RPR and VP-ring
A maximum of 2 STM-64 four-fiber rings, 4 STM-64 two-fiber rings, 11 STM-16 four-fiber rings, or 12 STM-16 two-fiber rings achieved with one subrack
- Great Network Survivability
The equipment provides the following network-level protection capabilities:
Mesh restoration
The equipment supports the distributed revertive rerouting function, which is implemented at five service levels: Diamond > Gold > Silver > Bronze > Iron.
SDH protection
Two-fiber/Four-fiber MSP, SNCP, DNI, and shared-fiber virtual path protection
Data service protection
Resilient packet ring (RPR) and spanning tree protocol (STP) for Ethernet services
VP-ring protection for ATM services
- Comprehensive Equipment-Level Protection Capabilities
The equipment provides the following equipment-level protection capabilities:
1+1 HSB for SCC boards
1+1 HSB for cross-connect and clock boards
Power supply protection

- Packet Switching and Transmission
Provides the packet domain for packet switching and transmission.
Supports multiple clock transmission technologies for TDM services and packet services.
- High-Precision Clock
The OptiX OSN 3500 supports the IEEE 1588 protocol. The high-precision clock provided by the OptiX OSN 3500 is transmitted over the transport network to other equipment that requires such a clock signal, such as 3G wireless base stations.
