What are chakras?

   The word chakra (or as it is spelled in Sanskrit - kra - with the c pronounced as ch) means wheel, and originally referred to a chariot wheel. Later it became associated with the term "wheel of light" which is the modern usage of the word. The seven chakras were first described nearly 2600 years ago, in the ancient sacred texts known as the Upanishads. Most of the current Western knowledge of the chakras comes from an English translation of Sanskrit texts from the 10th and 16th centuries.  It is interesting to note that the seven energy centers described so long ago actually have a basis in anatomy, they correspond to five main nerve ganglia of the spinal column and two areas of the brain (upper and lower). So in effect, they truly are "energy centers"!

Playing Frosted Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls

Place the bowl on top of the rubber washer and securely on a solid surface. With your hand, using the striker, gently strike the bowl (intense striking or playing may cause the bowl to break or shatter). Circle the outside rim 2 to 3 times achieving your desired volume. As the bowl is sounding, you will feel the vibration it emits. You may desire speed up or slow down your momentum around the bowl, also you may increase or decrease the pressure on the bowl. This will vary the sound strength and intensity to achieve a desired effect.

Playing Your Handle Held Quartz Crystal Bowl

Hold the quartz rod handle raising the bowl up in one hand. With your other hand, using the striker, gently strike the bowl (intense striking or playing may cause the bowl to break or shatter). Circle the outside rim 2 to 3 times achieving your desired volume. As the bowl is sounding, you will feel vibration in the handle and in your hand. You may desire to move the bowl up and down or circular, to achieve a desired effect. Be cautious and aware of things around you as you move the bowl around.

Different Types of Crystal Singing Bowls

Sitting Bowls

    There are several different types of quartz crystal bowls. The first is the most common, the frosted clear quartz sitting bowl. And another one is clear crystal singing bowl.

    These sitting bowls come in different sizes and tuned to different musical notes. The smaller the bowl the higher the "pitch". The larger the bowl the deeper the "pitch". Depending on the manufacturer they may also have a rounded bottom or they may have a flat bottom.

Handheld Practitioner Bowls

The second type of crystal singing bowl is what's often called a hand-held bowl or practitioner bowl.

These bowls are smaller in size than the sitting bowls. They typically range in size from 5 inches to 10 inches. they have a handle made of clear quartz and are much lighter weight. This makes it very convenient to use in healing sessions.
