What is DPI ?
A mouse's DPI (Dot Per Inch) is the number of dots in one inch which is been reading by the mouse?s sensor. The more the dots read, the more accurate the mouse reacts. Higher DPI means greater precision/smoothness for your mouse movement.

How does DPI work in mice?
Underneath a mouse is a LED light that reflects off a surface onto a complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensor. The movement of the mouse is then forwarded to a digital signal processor (DSP) for analysis. The DSP calculates how far the mouse moved then shares that information with the computer where we see the curser moves the calculated distance on the screen.

A standard mouse moving along a screen with higher resolution setting will take longer to move than a mouse with a higher DPI. That mouse will move faster and more accurately on the screen.
