This tea is made from the leaves and roots, sometimes even the entire herb, which is called taraxacum officinale. This herb gets its name from its sharp, serrated leaves. It is Dandelion or lion's tooth, as the leaves remind us of the teeth of a lion.
Dandelion is a perennial herb, native to Europe and temperate climates with leaves that are 5 to 25 cm long.
In the Spring you will likely see this single flower with its petals ranging in color from yellow to orange growing in pastures, meadows and lawns where it is considered a mere weed.
An infusion made with toasted ground root serves as a good caffeine free, coffee alternative, so this drink is also often called dandelion coffee.
Chinese traditional medicine has been using this herb for centuries as a cleansing tea that helps your digestion, breaking up the fat components in your food at a faster rate.
Here are some other benefits of dandelion you may enjoy with this tea.

Other Uses for Dandelion:

This herb may also be found in other forms, such as dandelion juice or maybe you can come up with your own dandelion recipes for salads as its leaves can be eaten raw, for a pleasant, yet slightly bitter taste. Eaten or drunk in this form, dandelion can help you cure liver diseases.
Dandelions can also be made into other drinks apart from juice, such as dandelion wine, beer or ale.
Side Effects of Dandelion Tea:
This tea is safe in general, though a few people may be allergic to milky latex in the stem and leaves, so if you’ve had past allergies of this nature, consult your doctor prior to drinking this tea.
Dandelion leaves are also not advised to those under medication with diuretic actions, as well as those taking medication for diabetes, as dandelion tea increases the effects of such medication and alter the effect you may be expecting from your medication.
Drinking Dandelion Tea:
Dandelion tea is strong and has an intense and bitter taste, but this can be overcome with a few simple tricks.
To make this tea, take 60g of leaves and roots per liter of boiling water, let rest for 10 minutes and then take a cup before every meal.
Alternatively you can take 6 dandelions leaves per teacup. First you tear the leaves into small strips and place them in the bottom of each cup. Then you pour boiling water. Let rest for 5 to 10 minutes. Lastly, you strain your tea and sweeten with honey or sugar.
