 EYE FLOW
There are sophisticated cameras that experts use to analyze the eye movement of a consumer who is reading a magazine page, looking at a car, surveying a store or stopping at a window display.Such research techniques are intriguing and valuable and offer scientific validation, but merchandisers without these devices can still conduct their own tests and gather their own reslts.
Begin by becoming aware of your own eye flow habits.Look at a store window display for three seconds and turn away.Make a note of which items from the display you saw and the order in which you saw them. .Odds are that you only identified three to five pieces. Which ones were they and in what order did you see them?Did your eye move clockwise or counterclockwise;left to right or top to bottom?
,Make note of your own habits.Odds are that your customers will have a similar eye flow pattern.Your goal is to correctly predict your customer’s eye flow and influence it.To accomplish this, you must first understand the natural focal point.
In a symmetrical layout, the focal point is in the top center of the display. In actuality, the eye conducts a series of”mental snapshots”in which the eye takes in momentary pictures of what it sees. These”takes”last for a quarter of a second or less, but they are imprinted firmly on the mind’s eye.Given this rapid examination process,an entire display can be mentally photographed in a second or two.
The viewer’s eye always moves in the easiest or most natural pattern.Symmetricallayouts restmble the words on a printed page,so viewers(at least those of western civilization heritage)will read left to right as though they were”reading”the display. The best way to determine how the eye flows in your display is to test in.Ask someone to take the same three-second test you conducted.keep adjusting the display design until your test subjects consistently identify your featured piece as the main thing they saw.

Daily Pleasure

Good Boy Little Robert asked his mother for two cents. "What did you do with the money I gave you yesterday?" "I gave it to a poor old woman," he answered. "You're a good boy," said the mother proudly. "Here are two cents more. But why are you so interested in the old woman?" "She is the one who sells the candy."
