Plastic housing is clear enabling user to line up the drill bit for proper placement of hole. The ring on my Dust Bowl is red. Made modification to red plastic ring by gluing a metal washer to red plastic ring. Then prior to use I dab some light oil to the metal washer. Worked great. Have used it to cut holes in ceiling for electrical work. Almost no dust outside of bowl.
